The sudden need to cry and feeling of moodyness is common amg ladies who have PMS, moodswings, postnatal blues etc...but is there only a thin line over periodic moody feeling to depression...is it easy to detect?to be treated in tym? or is one aware that they are slowing falling into the deep pits of depression?U must be wondering y i'm doin this entry...its just to serve as an eye-opener to myself or to those affected...i myself had faced such a period...but it was only minor...and treatable...but guess its a scary thing when it gets major / into severe depression...how do we know its major? besides the bouts of crying, if the feeling of unhappiness interrupts normal life of the person..some symptoms include loss of appetite, absence from their work, school housework, normal routine, preference for solitude, refrain frm socialising...depression can also manifests in other forms like anxiety , panic attacks, like phobia over certain tings...was wondering wat causes such to occur...besides the chemical imbalance of brain knwn to cause depression other factors also come in...they might be undesirable changes to person's lives, work/study stress, loss of a loved one, financial setbacks, relationship problems, chronic illness are some of the many. But i feel that most pple who faces such situations and depression from it do not seek professional medical help promptly. Firstly they might not realise they are affected or may have stigma in seeking psychiatric help. In S'pore IMH provides counselling however the institution is sterotyped as for the "not so sound minds".. But that is'nt the case so. It offers medication and few follow-up couselling sessions which can improve the person's state...i have personally seen one real life experience myself...that person is now able to lead a normal life...though not 100% as before...I really hope those around the affected can be vigilant enuf to recognise the symtoms and brave enuf to bring them to such institutions. Its nver too late to treat such cases but sadly if left untreated they can even be fatal...Its also "heartpain" to see our loved ones suffering from this illness...so if u knw anyone who has this prob do not hesitate to take the initiative to HELP them!
